People from all over the Chicagoland area will join the PKD Foundation on the road to a cure September 21, 2008. They will put on their shoes and participate in the Walk for PKD – a day of fun and fitness to help end polycystic kidney disease – PKD.
Twenty thousand (20,000) people in the Chicagoland area have polycystic kidney disease (PKD). PKD is one of the world’s most life-threatening genetic diseases. PKD causes fluid-filled cysts to form on the kidneys which will eventually lead to kidney failure. More than half these people don’t even know they have PKD until confronted with the complications of the disease: high blood pressure, kidney stones, back pain, blood in the urine. Worse, most people are probably unaware that PKD has no cure.

Additional Info:    The two-mile route takes place almost entirely on the paved running path.?The Fresh Market, Sweet Tomatoes, Clif Bar and Starbucks will provide pre-walk refreshments, while a post-walk festivities awaits walkers once they cross the finish line! Participants enjoy a children’s activity area, great prizes for top fundraisers and teams, door-prizes, and a post-walk performance by the Jesse White Tumbling Team!
